PASSING ON THE
TORCH
Dr Crokes
Blitz, Sat. 3/10/09
Kerry may have
36 All Ireland Senior Football Titles but arrangements
are already in place for titles 42, 43 & 44 to be
achieved in a decade’s time!
On Saturday 3
Oct 2009 at Lewis Rd, Dr Crokes hosted underage teams
from Listowel , John Mitchels & Kerins O Rahillys.
In all, 16 teams
were fielded in 4 age categories, Under 7, 8, 9 & 10’s.
With Dr Crokes
facilities allowing 8 pitches to be in operation, play
was ongoing for more than 2 hours, each team playing 3
matches in a mini league format.
The emphasis was
on enjoyment and participation and this goal was
achieved. These young stars were oblivious to the
adverse weather conditions and the talent, skills and
sportsmanship displayed were exemplary, with all the
children contributing to their respective teams. The
future of Kerry football is secure given the exhibition
of fielding, kicking off both feet and scoring prowess
these young talents displayed in driving rain.
A special
visitor, taking time out from his busy schedule was
Kerry captain, Darran O Sullivan. Darran spoke words of
encouragement to all the participants and his interest
in their development was very much appreciated by the
children, their parents and team mentors.
Credit is due to
all who contributed to a very successful sporting
occasion and it is hoped to repeat the event and rotate
the host venue in the future.
