Last Saturday Dr.
Crokes under 11 took part in the Firies GAA Club Blitz. The
first game against Kilcummin was a close fought match with some
fine displays of football from both sides. The Dr. Crokes team
dug deep and came out victors by the narrowest of margins, 0-5
to 1-1. Our second game was with the host team Firies. Again,
Dr. Crokes played with great heart. However, Firies took their
chances, scoring vital goals and took the laurels by a few
points. Dr. Crokes needed to win their third game with
Scartaglen to stay in the tournament. The team went out with
all guns blazing and all sectors of the team gave their best
display of the day. A well earned victory saw the under 11 team
advance to the semi-finals.
The semi-final
oppostion turned out to be local Killarney team, Legion. Both
teams exchanged scores through the first half. However, two
quick goals for Legion in the second half brought the Dr. Crokes
campaign to an end. Although the exersions of the Scartaglen
game took its toal during the semi-final, the under 11 team
fought to the bitter end in through Dr. Crokes style.
A tired Dr. Crokes
team travelled home, well satisfied with their day’s work.
Firies ran out eventual winners of a very well organised
tournament.

Dr Crokes 3-4 Kerins O'Rahillys 2-3
(18/5/02) The Under 11 Dr. Crokes
team played some excellent football to forge a very good win
over Kerins O’Rahillys by 3-4 to 2-3. This team played some
fast moving football to create scores which were well taken by
Keith O’Leary (1-1), Christopher Brady (1-1), Cian O’Neill (1-0)
and Keith Buckley (0-1). Kieran Ward played well at centre of
the field, while Joseph Keogh, Frank Lavery and Conor O’Neill
were solid in defence. Kieran O’Sullivan in goal made some
fantastic saves.
Dr Crokes 1-5, Rathmore 3-11.
This was the teams first competitive game and they found the
going tough against a bigger Rathmore team. With a few more
games this team will no doubt improve, they have some talented
young footballers. Some names for the future are Keith O'Leary,
Chris Brady, Eoin Clifton, Cian Buckley, Keith Buckley, Kieran
Ward. More future stars names next week.
