Under 12
2003
Tuesday 13 May,
2003 Beaufort V Dr Crokes
Dr Crokes Under 12s
travelled to Beaufort for their second game. A close fought
game, which was score for score throughout the whole match ended
in a draw, 1-9 to 2-6. Goals either half from Timmy O’Donoghue
and Keith O’Leary kept Dr Crokes spirits high. A brace of
points from Cian O’Neill and Chris Brady added to the score.
However, the scores of the evening had to be two Maurice
Fitzgerald like points from frees by Kieran Ward, which he took
from just inside the sideline. Robert Watson made numerous
terrific drives slicing through the Beaufort defence.
In goal James Barry
pulled of a number of brilliant saves in goal and was ably
assisted by backs Gordon Buckley and Ignatius Curtin. Eoin
Clifton and PJ Lawlor competed well at midfield.
Sunday 18 May,
2003 Dr Crokes V Austin Stacks
A very strong Austin
Stacks team came to Lewis Road to take the honours 1-5 to 3-18.
While the Crokes team were missing some of their senior players,
the score did not demonstrate the effort put in by the home
team. Chris Brady popped over two neat points in the first
half, which ended 0-2 to 1-10 in favour of the Tralee team.
However, the Dr. Crokes team never gave up trying and improved
their game in the second half, playing against a strong wind.
Robert Watson pointed from a free as did Cian Buckley. Chris
Brady scored from play to finish his hat-trick of points.
Introducing Neilly McEntaggart inspired Crokes to greater
effort, especially when Neilly crashed the ball to the back of
the Stacks net for a rasping goal.
In defence, Joseph
Keogh, Conor O’Neill, Frank Lavery and Kieran Ward put in
stalwart efforts and competed for every ball.
Next Sunday 25 May,
the Under 12 team are at home to Kerins O’Rahillys, which
finishes the preliminary round for the County League.
After three consecutive wins
in challenge games with Cuala (Dublin), Kilcummin and Rathmore,
the under 12 Dr. Crokes team started out the 2003 County League
with a great deal of optimism. However, luck was not on their
side and a lapse of concentration in the first half saw the
final score Killorglin 2-25 Dr.Crokes 1-10.
The early exchanges saw the spoils equally shared and after five
minutes the score was 3 points to both sides. Forwards Cian
O'Neill, Cian Buckley and Alex O'Sullivan were putting in great
efforts while Eoin Clifton and Timmy O'Donoghue were providing a
strong midfield for the Crokes. In the back line Ignatius
Curtin, Gordon Buckley and PJ Lawlor were putting up a great
defence. Then came the Dr. Crokes lapse in concentration and
Killorglin took full advantage, getting two quick goals and a
number of points. The first half finished with a scoreline of
Killorglin 1-16, Dr. Crokes 0-4.
The second half proved to be a different story with the Dr.
Crokes team coming out with determined to prove they were better
than their display in the first half would indicate. In true
Crokes spirit, they put on a much improved performance. Keith
Buckley played one of his better games and a fantastic passing
movement saw Chris Brady set up Keith O'Leary who blasted the
ball into the Killorglin net for the best goal of the evening.
Joseph Keogh played solidly as full back and Conor O'Neill
(captain for the county league campaign) upped their game in the
second half and gave nothing away to the Killorglin forwards.
In goal James Barry made several good saves, but none better
than a reflex save from a point blank shot midway through the
second half. Man of the match for Dr. Crokes was Kieran Ward,
who covered every blade of grass on the pitch, from breaking
Laune hearts with great defensive blocks to forays up front
where he scored a long distance point.
Substitutions were made throughout the game and those who came
on, gave a very good account of themselves. Subs on the day were
Cathal Mangan, Neillie McEntaggart, Frank Lavery, Stephen
O'Donoghue, David Leacy and Robert Watson.
The next outing for the under 12 team is in Beaufort playing
Beaufort on Sunday
11 May.

East Kerry Final Dr Crokes 0-7 Legion 1-8
An early goal from James O'Donoghue was the foundation for
Legion's victory in sun filled Fitzgeralds Stadium Sunday
evening Sept. 15th. Our lads tried their best but superb defence
by Legion ensured they got a deserved win.
The under 12 team finished off the East
Kerry league with a good victory over Rathmore on Thursday
last. Dr. Crokes got down to business from the throw-in and
knew a win was vital to ensure that they progressed to the
semi-finals of the East Kerry Championship. A good start gave
Dr. Crokes a great boost and at half-time had a significant
lead.
The second half saw a
fight-back by Rathmore narrowed the margins. However, Dr.
Crokes got back on track to put the game beyond doubt, running
out victors with a score of 9-10 to 4-4. The under 12 team now
look forward to playing the East Kerry semi-finals. The draw
will take place next Thursday at the East Kerry Bórd na nÓg
meeting.

Dr Crokes 4-7 Spa 3-4 9/8/02
The Dr Crokes under
12 team got their East Kerry campaign off to a good start with a
victory over local rivals Spa winning by a margin of 4-7 to 3-4.
A sluggish start saw Dr Crokes fall behind
1-2 to no score and the first quarter of the game had Spa on
top. However, Dr. Crokes found their feet and brought the game
back to level terms before half time. A devastating burst at
the beginning of the second half provided three unanswered goals
for the Crokes lads. Hard work and some skillful play saw Dr.
Crokes bring victory home in their first game. Anthony Daly,
Kieth O’Leary, Christopher Brady and David O’Leary scored a goal
each, while points were scored by David Casey, Fionn Fitzgerald,
Shane O’Neill, Timmy O’Donoghue, Kieth O’Leary, Christopher

A brilliant display of football on Friday July 19th clinched
the County Division 2 title when we beat Gaeltacht 5-12 to
2-2.With Dr Crokes Kerry star Colm Cooper watching from the
sideline our boys were in inspired form. Timmy O'Donoghue
started the scoring with a great point and this was followed by
goals from Anthony Daly and Keith O'Leary but this was a
fantastic team effort so to each and everyone of the panel we
say well done!!
Our u-12 team have played two games in round 2 of the County
League. They travelled to Castlegregory and played a very
exciting draw with the home team. Score Castlegregory 4-9, Dr
Crokes 3-12. A feature of the game was an Anthony Daly hat-trick
playing at full forward. Ciaran O'Sullivan played well in goal
and both David Galvin and David Casey showed a welcome return to
their best form.
Their second game was v Beaufort in Beaufort.
Score Beaufort 1-8, Dr Crokes 3-9.
A Keith O'Leary hat-trick paved the way for the teams first win
in the League. The whole team played with great skill and heart
and were deserving winners. Niall O'Connell, Ciaran O'Sullivan
and Chris Brady were impressive.

We Lose to O'Rahillys Dr
Crokes under 12s met with a strong Kerins O’Rahillys team on
Saturday 18 May. A bad start had the young Dr. Crokes players
on the back foot from the beginning. But in true Black and
Amber spirit, the team fought back in the second half to draw in
the lead built up by Kerins O'Rahillys in the first half. This
“never say die” spirit was bravely displayed by “Man of the
Match” Fionn Fitzgerald, who harried and fought for every ball
that came his way. David O’Leary gave a great display of
marksmanship with scores from three frees. These were added to
by well taken points from play by Mark O’Donoghue, Anthony Daly
and Shane O’Neill.
Dr Crokes 1-6, Beaufort 1-6
Our U-12 team had their first victory snatched from their grasp
when Beaufort kicked a last minute point. Playing with the
breeze in the first half Dr Crokes led 1-5 to 0-1. A number of
goal chances were missed in the second half by our lads, one of
these would surely have secured victory. Prominent players David
Neeson in goal, Shane O'Neill, David Galvin, Eoin Clifton in the
backs and David O'Leary, Fionn Fitzgerald in the forwards.
Dr Crokes 1-3 Laune Rangers 3-4
This was a very entertaining game played at Lewis Road on
Tuesday 30 April. It was the first competitive game of the year
for this team. The level of skill displayed by both teams was a
very high standard. Dr Crokes played against the breeze in the
first half and were trailing 1-3 to 1-1 at half time. In the
second half a physically stronger Laune Rangers back line kept a
tight rein on our forwards. All the Crokes players on view tried
their best and have shown improvement in all games played to
date. Niall O'Connell, Shane O'Riordan, Anthony Daly, Keith
O'Leary and Cian Buckley all played well.
