Dr. Crokes
U 14’s 2gls - 14pts Legion U 14’s 2gls - 09pts.
Dr. Crokes won the East Kerry U 14’s
for the third year in a row with a brilliant
performance against a very good Legion Team played
in Fossa on Wednesday evening last. The conditions
were quite difficult in that a lot of rain had
fallen before the game but the skill level of all
the players was of very high quality which credit
must go to both sets of mentors. The Legion opened
brightly with Riese Farrell prominent and a goal by
James O’Donoghue after ten minutes put them in
front. However Crokes gradually got on top and with
Diathi Casey outstanding in midield and Fionn
Fitzgerald at centre back driving the team forward
Crokes started to tag on points through Shane
O’Neill, T.J. Cronin and two very good points from
mid fielder Diathi Casey put Crokes a point ahead.
Then with seven minutes to go before half time great
work by T.J. Cronin and Shane O’Neill and Chris
Brady ended with Brady finishing to the net to put
Crokes four points ahead. The Legion tagged back a
point with James O’Donoghue leaving the score at
half time 1 – 7 to 1 – 03. The Legion again opened
brightly at the start of the second half and the
forty five by Riese Farrell created all sorts of
trouble in the Crokes defence and ended up being
scrambled over the line. Legion added a further
point to leave the score level after seven minutes
of the second half. After this the Crokes half back
line, half forward line and mid field got totally in
control with Kieran O’Sullivan, Conor O’Neill, Fionn
Fitzgerald, Jonathan Clarke and Daithi Casey really
on top along with Niall O’Connell and Mark
O’Donoghue who were working very hard on the wings
creating plenty of opportunities and Crokes enjoyed
a very good spell. A brilliant goal by Shane O’Neill
along with points from T.J. Cronin and David O’Leary
put Crokes firmly in control and going into the last
ten minutes they lead by eight points. The Legion,
to their credit, never gave up and tagged on points
most of them being scored by James O’Donoghue to
reduce the lead down to five points. However they
could not find their way to get further goals which
they badly needed past the Crokes full back line in
which Shane O’Riordan was outstanding and was well
assisted by Kieran Ward and Eoin Clifton while David
Neeson was always assured in goal. Overall it was an
outstanding performance by the Crokes and well
deserved on the night and indeed on the year.
The team was as follows:-
David Neeson, Kieran Ward, Shane Riordan, Eoin
Clifton, Conor O’Neill, Fionn Fitzgerald, Kieran
O’Sullivan, Daithi Casey, Jonathan Clarke, Niall
O’Connell, David O’Leary, Mark O’Donoghue, Chris.
Brady, T.J. Cronin, Shane O’Neill. Subs – PJ. Lawlor,

Dr.
Crokes u-14 had three games in the last fortnight which
include a defeat in the county fnal at the hands of
Laune Rangers. The team performed brilliantly in the

fine performances from Fionn Fitzgerald, Kieren O

performance.
In the final played in Beaufort on Monday evening
24/5/04, Crokes were unable to scale the same heights
against a very strong Laune Rangers team, who ran out
easy winners on a scoreline of 4-17 to 11 pointd. On the
night Crokes could not match their opponents who in turn
produced their finest performance of the year. Two goals
in the last 10 minutes of the first half put Rangers in
control and gave them an interval lead of 8 points.
Crokes never gave up and tried hard in the second half
but Rangers were always able to respond to each Crokes
score and also added two further goals. On the night
Mark O Donoghue, Niall O Connell, David O Leary and TJ
Cronin were best.
On Wednesday night 26/5/04, Crokes played their first

to record a fine 1-14 to 1-9 win. Crokes led at half
time by 3 points with Daithi Casey getting the goal
while David O Leary, who had a great game on the forty,
TJ Cronin and Shane O Neill also on the scoresheet. In
defence Fionn Fitzgerald was outstanding along with Eoin
Clifton and Kieren Ward. In the second half Legion tried
hard to narrow the gap but each time they scored Crokes
were able to come down the field and reply with scores
of their own and two great late points by the impressive
Daithi Casey gave Crokes a deserved win. Jonathon Clarke

at Dr. Crokes grounds Lewis Road: Dr. Crokes 1- 8 - Legion 0 –
8pts.
Crokes had a very good 1 – 8 to 0 – 8 win over the Legion to put
them on course to qualify for the knock out stages of the County
Division 1 Under 14 League. Crokes playing with the wind on the
first half lead by 0 – 6 to 0 – 4 at half time with Shane
O’Neill and David O’Leary very much to the fore in the forward
line while Jonathan Clarke was winning plenty of ball in mid
field. In the second half Crokes introduced substitute T.J.
Cronin who made a very strong impression getting a brilliant
goal ten minutes into the second half which paved the way for
victory and also contributing a point. Legion tried hard to get
back into the game with James O’Donoghue contributing points
from frees and could not find a way past an outstanding defence
of Kieran Ward, Shane Riordan and Eoin Clifton in the full back
line and Fionn Fitzgerald, Kieran O’Sullivan and Conor O’Neill
in the half back line. In the second half at mid field Daithi
Casey was dominant setting up his forward line many times and
creating plenty of openings. Others to impress in the forward

the last week. On Friday last they beat Spa in a score line of 4 – 12 to
2 – 4. Crokes played superb football in the first half and this game was
really over at half time getting 4 – 9 in the first half. Anthony Daly
was dominant in full forward scoring two goals. Jonathan Clarke got
Crokes first goal while Shane O’Neill got Crokes other goal. The forward
line moved very well with Niall O’Connell, David O’Leary and Mark

Dr Crokes v Laune Rangers and Austin Stacks Reports
1/4/04
The Crokes Under 14’s started their County League Campaign
on Saturday last 27/3/04, when they were beaten by a bigger
and more physical Laune Rangers Team in Killorglin. Crokes
playing with the breeze in the first half started well and
lead mid way through the half by 1 – 3 to 0 - 2 with the
impressive Keith O’Leary getting the goal. A goal just
before half time by Laune Rangers put them in the driving
seat and in the second half Laune Rangers were in control
and ran out easy winners. It was a disappointing performance
by Crokes on the day with only David Neeson, Daithi Casey,
Fionn Fitzgerald, Kieran O’Sullivan and Keith O’Leary
performing any way near their best.
It was a different story on Monday evening with a very
determined performance Crokes defeated Austin Stacks on a
score line of 4 – 7 to 3 – 9 in a thrilling game played at
Lewis Road. Stacks played with the wind in the first half
lead at the interval on a score line of 1 – 4 to 1 – 0 with
Keith O’Leary getting the Dr. Crokes goal. The Stacks had
much of the play in this half but found that the defence
with Kieran O’Sullivan, Fionn Fitzgerald, Shane Riordan and
Eoin Clifton were outstanding. They were difficult to get
past. In the second half the Crokes came more into the play
and an impressive substitute Anthony Daly, was causing
problems for Stacks at full forward. Daly got the first of
his two goals mid way through the half, to give Crokes the
lead. However, after this the Stacks got the upper hand
again, and with twelve minutes to go, led by 5 points.
Crokes never say die attitude and determination inspired by
Jonathan Clarke, David O’Leary and Shane O’Neill began to
get back and a cracking goal by Jonathan Clarke got Crokes
back to level terms. With eight minutes to go, Stacks went
down the field and got a further goal and a point to lead by
4 points and looked certain for a victory. However, in the
last four minutes Crokes rallied brilliantly, and points by
David O’Leary and Shane O’Neill just put two points between
the teams and in the last minute Anthony Daly got an
opportunistic goal, to give Crokes a very good win. On the
night everyone on the team played their part in a great
performance.
The team was as follows:-
David Neeson, Kieran Ward, Shane Riordan, Kieran
O’Sullivan, Eoin Clifton, Conor O’Neill, Fionn Fitzgerald,
Daithi Casey, Jonathan Clarke, Mark O’Donoghue, David
O’Leary, Shane O’Neill, Niall O’Connell, Keith O’Leary.
Substitutes Anthony Daly , Cian Buckley, Sean Coppinger, PJ
Lawlor, Gary Landers, Christopher Leahy
