Dr Crokes sponsored U 8 and 10
hurling Blitz on Saturday June 30th.
Report on the U 10 games.
In the U 10 hurling section of this
blitz held in
Lewis Road there were four evenly matched teams
participating.
Newtownshandrum, Ballincollig, Kenmare and Dr Crokes.
In our opening game, Dr Crokes beat Ballincollig after
an intense struggle
thanks to goals by Tony Brosnan, Mark O'Shea and Jason
Brosnan. This game
set the
tone of fast and skillful hurling for the afternoon.
The game between
Newtownshandrum and
Kenmare saw victory going to the Cork lads. In the
second game we were
pitted
against Newtown and our lads showed great heart and a
good deal of skill to
be well in the
game at half - time.
John L Ivory in goals and some good defending by Gavin
White, Michael Owen
Buckley and Conor McSharry insured that Newtown had to
work hard for their
scores.
Daniel O'Brien was in excellent form in the half back
line and scored a
long -range goal. In
midfield Miceal Burns and Jack Lenihan
lead by example with some great skills and good striking
and the forwards
made good use of the
possession. Some good scores by Fergal O'Donoghue ,
Billy Courtney and
Caolan O'Donoghue
kept this game in the melting pot right up to the end .
However in the
final few minutes
Newtown got the vital scores and kept their unbeaten
record intact.
In our final game against Kenmare, it was touch and go
for a long period
before Jack Lenihan and Miceal Burns gained a midfield
advantage which
resulted in Alan O'Doherty, Chris Doncel
& John A Harrington getting vital scores to reward the
outfield efforts .
Newtownshandrum beat Ballincollig in their final game
and remained unbeaten.
The U 10 final was a repeat of the Newtownshandrum V
Crokes game from
earlier in the afternoon
and despite the heavy rain both teams served up some
great hurling. In the
end Newtownshandrum
remained unbeaten and our gallant team finished as
runners-up.
All in all, this was a very worthwhile blitz and it
shows the improvements
made by the Crokes players in recent months.
Finishing runners-up in this kind of hurling company
is not bad and gives
everyone
encouragement for the future. A word of thanks to both
the Dr Crokes club
for
the trophy and medals and to the ladies committee for
their catering on the
day . Well done.

Report on the U 12 County Final V
Kilmoyley.
Played in ideal conditions at Austin
Stack Park , Tralee our
under 12 hurlers put on a great display and were
unlucky to
lose this game. It was agreed that our team are the
most improved team in the county in a short period of
time and
they showed all their skills in this game.
We got off to a bad start and the early nerves worked
against us .
Unfortunately our usually sound defence and goalie
conceded
two goals in the first ten minutes but this setback
galvanised
us into a great comeback and coming upto half time the
score was
2-00 to 1-03. Our goal came from Chris Doncel and
Laurence Byrnes
got three points . Some strong pressure from Kilmoyley
was rewarded with
a bullet of a goal before half time so at the break the
score was 3-00 to
1-03.
In the second half all our lads showed great character
and pulled the
deficit back to
just one point and could have gone into the lead but
for some great
defending by
Kilmoyley. In a hectic last ten minutes some subs added
their strength to
the battle
but there was no way through for us. A breakaway goal
by Kilmoyley sealed
our fate
but true to their form, this team never gave up and
Kilmoyley were gracious
enough
to admit that in their victory speech . The final score
was Kilmoyley 4-01
: Dr Crokes 1-05.
We had heroes all through the team and into the subs
bench and our goal now
is keep the
interest and appetite for hurling alive and well in this
enthuastic group.
Well done to all concerned.

Report on U 12 Hurling -County
League.
Our first outing in the county league was an away game
in Kilmoyley against
the locals.
Unfortunately the weather spoiled a good game of
hurling for both teams and
despite some
heroic efforts and a never say die attitude we lost by
a few goals.
Playing with a breeze at our backs we had hoped to
build upon
our good opening and get some scores on the board. A
few good saves by the
Kilmoyley
keeper and a few bad wides resulted in we trailing by
four points at the
break.
The second half was always going to be tough against the
wind however, it
was in this period that
the Crokes lads showed true character and battled
bravely all through .
Defending with great heart and making many forays into
the opposing
goalmouth. In the end
we lost but we had displayed many good skills and it
was encouraging
to be complimented by the Kilmoyley mentors on our
skill levels.
We had many stars on the night but it was the combined
team effort
by every player that gives us optimism for the future.

Under 10 & U 12 hurling-. May
1st, 2007.
On May day our U10 & U12 hurlers travelled to Kenmare
for
challenge matches against the locals. It was a great
evening and
a good experience for all .
For the U 10 team it was their first game of the year
and the experience
will benefit them in time to come. After scoring a few
fine goals and
leading the way
Kenmare eventually ran out winners in thone.

U12:- This game was a re-match for our under 12's who
had lost to Kenmare
in
the recent South Kerry league. Playing against the wind
in the first half
posed a stiff test for our
defence and despite a few goal concessions they can be
satisfied with
their efforts.
In the second half the wind was used well and with
some quick hurling the
scores arrived and
we turned the tables on Kenmare and overturned the
league result. This is a
good confidence boost
for the team in advance of the county league and it is
also a good reward
for all their recent hard work in training.

acknowledge the

all the players in Kenmare on May 1st......THANK YOU .
Training continues for both U10 and U12 on Saturdays at
9.45am and Tuesdays
at 6.30pm.
Report on Dr Crokes U 12 hurlers V Kenmare.
A home game for the under 12 hurlers brought
the best in players and the supporters on this fine
sunny evening. We saw some great hurling skills from
both sides
and some fast hurling also. This game for tough and
close with Kenmare
being ahead at the break . Crokes did very well in the
first half and had
some fine scores from
Miceal Burns and Laurence Byrnes. These two were doing
well at midfield
and were ably assisted by Conor McSharry and John L
Ivory in defence.
In the second half, we started well and Miceal Burns
scored a fantastic
goal after a blistering solo run.
Jack Lenihan and Oscar O'Connor tried everything they
knew in the forwards,
however in the last ten minutes
Kenmare got a few vital goals and their victory was
sealed.
This was another heartening performance by our under 12
hurlers and we must
continue
to build on this . Well done boys.
