Introduction
The
purpose of this exercise is to find out how many of the
Dr. Crokes players of 1995/1996 are still playing
today. It does not put forward the reasons why the
individual players of 1995/1996 are not playing in the
current year. Common reasons for hanging up the boots
include age, injury, lack of interest, personal
circumstances such as marriage, building a house, new
job etc. That is an area for further research.
Some
interesting items do arise from this research
- Dr.
Crokes has a very successful club structure
providing teams and competitions from Under age
through to Senior.
- A
cohort of players graduate from all teams to the
older teams.
- All
age groups won different competitions at different
age levels.
The one
exception to success was the 1994 Under 12 team, which
had a losing sequence right through their under age
ranks. It did however produce two of the present senior
squad – Kieran Brosnan and Colm Cooper. Gooch was
goalkeeper on theat Under 12 team. Full credit to the
mentors and to Kieran and Gooch. If the mentors and
Gooch had given up because the team was weak we would
not have the best club and county player gracing our
fields
today ……
