Club Notes Week 37 2020   14/09/2020

SENIOR CO. CHAMPIONSHIP S/F Mid Kerry 3-20 Dr. Crokes 3-19 (AET). We came out of this exciting s/f on Saturday losing by the slenderest of margins where each and everyone of the players gave their all.

Mid Kerry started the brighter and led by two points after 6minutes, 2 Brian Looney points and a third by Miceal Burns put us ahead by the minimum after 11minutes. sides were level after 13 further minors by Kieran O`Leary and Burns inched us ahead 3 unanswered Mid Kerry points  was quickly replied by a Burns goal left us leading 1-05 to 0-06 after 19 minutes. 5 Mid Kerry minors  replied by a David Shaw point left the score at the break 1-06 to 0-11.

On the resumption quick minors by Johnny Buckley and Shaw brought parity but the Mid Kerry with two goals gave them a six point lead and put them in the driving seat but the heart and never say die spirit of our lads can never be underestimated. Chris Doncel led the fightback with a goal and points from Mark O Shea and Burns (2) drew us level at 3/4 stage. 2-11 apiece.

Entering the final quarter Mid Kerry inched 2points ahead quickly replied by Shaw and Fionn Fitzgerald With the game played a ferocious pace further points from Burns and O`Leary inched us ahead by the minimum. Mid Kerry with 2 frees gave them the advantage but a superb point from O`Leary brought proceeding to a close and we headed for extra time for the second time in 3 championship outings.

The first period  with points from O`Leary Burns and O`Shea saw us take a slender lead at half time 2-19 to 2-18, in the 3rd minute a superb goal from Gavin White after a patient build up and this proved to be our last score whilst our opponents got 1-02 in the final six minutes so our dream of bringing the Bishop Moynihan Cup home in 2020 was over.

Credit to all of the squad and management for their endeavours during the campaign With all the injuries affecting the squad it was a remarkable achievement to go so far.

LADIES Our Senior ladies secured a hard-earned but deserved victory against MKL Gaels on Monday evening last, maintaining their 100% record in the group stages of the Junior A competition.  Final score Dr Crokes 3-12 MKL Gaels 1-12.  We now face Laune Rangers in the Junior A Semi-final which will be played at home this Monday evening, 14 Sept at 7pm.

Our U16 girls travelled to Scartaglen for the Semi-final of their Div 3 County league on Wed last.  The girls had been beaten by the same opposition by a single point in the group stages so it was always going to be a close encounter.   In what turned out to be a titanic battle, the Crokes girls hit a purple patch 10 mins in to the second half and with 2 quick goals in succession by Eimear Cronin & Leah McMahon they headed in to the second water break a point up.  Credit to both teams, it was a tremendous game of football. Despite Scart's valiant efforts in the last few minutes our steadfast backs held their own to come out on top Dr Crokes 3-8 Scartaglen 2-9 and secure a place in the U16 Final.
