Club Notes Week 24 2021   14/06/2021

Games finally returned last week with many of teams back in action, our hurlers played in their first Div 1 co. fixture our 3 senior teams fielded in their respective divisions with mixed success A & C teams victorious with wins over John Mitchells & Valentia  with the B side losing to a  strong Glenbeigh/Glencar side. A feature of these saw the return from long term injury of Daithi Casey & Jordan Kiely both who performed excellently.

Senior Hurling Dr Crokes 1-08 Crotta O'Neills 0-17

Friday night last was an historic night in Lewis Road where we lined out as a Senior Hurling Team for the first time and hosted Crotta O'Neill's in the  Credit Union County Hurling League Division 1. We had the perfect start at both ends of the field with Conor Bohane saving a point blank shot while, at the other end, Mark Heffernan batted the ball to the net. Further points came from Kieran O'Connor and Kevin Landers however Crotta O'Neill's had seven scores before halftime, leaving the score: Dr Crokes 1-03 to Crotta O'Neills 0-09.

By the second water break Crotta led by three points 0-13 to 1-07 however we only added one more point before the end following a number of wides. While the game ended in defeat, we played with great heart and determination in our first game at senior level.

Team: Conor Bohane, Anthony Keogh, Mike Milner (Captain), Patrick Crehan, Rory Waters, Declan Hickey, Gary O'Connor, Jack Lenihan, Shane Lyne, Kevin Landers, Colm O'Cuiv, Kieran O'Connor, Rob Ryan, David Carroll, Mark Heffernan.

Subs: Ciarán Kennedy, Michael O'Keeffe and Shane Kavanagh

Div. 1 football Dr. Crokes 2-17 John Mitchells 0 -10. an experimental Dr. Crokes side lined out against John Mitchells on Sunday last unable to call on sixteen players through Inter county commitments and a long list of injuries management blended experience with a youthful look handing Senior debuts to goalkeeper Adam Kelly & Evan Looney with Terry Sparling & Harry Potts introduced in the second half.

We started the livelier and led 0-06 to 0-01 after 10 minutes Mitchells kept plugging away and reduced the arrears to 3points after the first quarter at half time we led 0-12 to 0-06. On the resumption Jordan Kiely closed out the game with 1-01 in the opening 3 minutes. The second goal came in the closing minutes with a Mikey Casey finish.

B Team Div. 2 Glenbeigh/Glencar 3-11 Dr. Crokes 2-07 we had a strong performance against a strong local side. This was good performances by a relatively young side who battled bravely. This game marked the return of Daithi Casey after a year long battle with a knee injury and he certainly had a wonderfull game,  their were other notable performance from Chris Brady, Niall O`Shea, Harry Potts.

C team Div 6 Dr. Crokes 2-16 Valentia 1-11 we travelled to the Island  for this fixture and came away with the spoils.

Games

The U11 started their season on Thursday with two away games against Laune Rangers. There were two good sporting contests between the clubs. The trainers were delighted with our performances and it was great all of the players' hard work was rewarded. Thanks to Laune Rangers for hosting us so well.

The U13 team began their County League campaign at home against Glenflesk on Sunday. Despite being short some numbers through injury the squad put in a great performance to win 5 -14 to 1 -7. Thanks to Glenflesk for a good game.

The Dr Crokes U15 A and B teams commenced their county league campaigns with two very entertaining games versus Kenmare and Ballymac at Lewis Road last Wednesday evening. The B team had a fine win v Kenmare in a very sporting game and played lovely attractive football throughout led by captain Killian White and well officiated by referee Christy Crowley. The B team next fixture is at home to Kilcummin this weds at 5 pm .The A game v Ballymac was a terrific high quality contest and Ballymac raced into a 3 point lead before Noah Sexton opened the scoring for the home team. The same player then combined nicely with Liam Hennigan who cut in from the right for a fine score. The backs Brian Titus and Adam Byrne were defending impressively and two fine saves by the impressive goalkeeper Kasper Roebak kept us in the game. After the water break the crokes really upped the pace led impressively by midfielders Oisin O Sullivan and debutant Cian Mulcahy well assisted by the impressive Neil O Carroll centre forward and his hard working brother Mark and Ben Kelleher both U 13.Then before half time a big turning point in the game when Liam cut in from the right along the sideline and passed the ball across the goal for the in rushing pacy Oisin O Sullivan who fisted i the ball into the empty net but the goal was ruled out as the referee deemed advantage to be over .Cian Mulcahy our impressively midfielder scored the resultant free to leave the half time Scote 6 pts to 5 to Ballymac. The second half started with Ballymac scoring some impressive points and a goal to race into a 7 point lead despite some impressive defending by Kieran Clancy and Gearoid Sugrue. Then a fine individual goal by Neil O Carroll reduced the lead just before the water break .Following calm words by Vince and Brian O Shea during the break and a few positional changes where Nathan Cronin switched to Corner Back and shored up the defence and Jack O Donoghue very impressive also.Muiris O Donoghue impressive throughout following a fine move then scored a cracking goal which reduced the Ballymac lead to 5 pts and two long range Cian Mulcahy frees further reduced the lead to 3 entering injury time.Crokes were then denied a penalty which could have earned the team a draw before Ballymac went up the field to score the insurance point giving Ballymac a deserved 4 point victory on the night. This was an excellent performance against an impressive well drilled physically stronger Ballymac team and considering 11 of the team that finished is underage again next year augurs well for the future .Brian Mc Carthy sub who was very impressive in the B game replaced the injured centre back Adan Byrne near the end who was excellent throughout.Sean Kiely sub also impressive in the B game picked up a knock in that game and could not come on but will be ready for the game v Churchill next weds evening. Thanks to the great support on the night from from all the parents of all the teams who really appreciated being able to watch games again following lockdown ..

The U17 started their campaign against Glenflesk. Glenflesk have their strongest team for many years and have a number of county minor panelists. Nevertheless Crokes put in a very strong performance before Glenflesk took a deserved win.

Dr Crokes U14 girls got their League campaign off to a great start with a win over Ballyduff last Sunday. The Crokes girls opened the scoring and continued to lead throughout the game. From the backs to the forwards the girls linked up well together with some lovely fast, free flowing football. At the end of the first half the girls were up 2.8 to 2.3. But it was in the second half that the girls really started to pull away, with Clodagh McGorrian, Sarah Cooper and Siofra Randles all hitting the back of the net. Sabra Hicky and Aoife O'Donoghue also got on the score board. Jocelyn Hickey and Ella Bartlett where solid in defence. Well done to Jessica Uchytil-O'Connor for pulling off some lovely saves. PLAYERS INJURY FUND I wish to confirm that a GAA Players “Loss of Wages Cover” will be re-instated back into the GAA Player Injury Fund with effect from 1st June 2021. It will form part of the GAA “Players Injury Fund” in line with previous years and will see the associated cover benefits restored in full. Following representations made by clubs and members of Ard Chomhairle in relation to the pause placed on the “Loss of Wages Cover” in January 2021, a ballot of Ard Chomhairle was held last week to determine the preferred option that would see this cover fully restored. The option selected by Ard Chomhairle will see a 25% levy applied to a clubs Adult and U20 team registration costs with all claims being fully administered from within the existing GAA player Injury Fund and not via a separate Insurance Policy. This will see an Adult team registration cost increase from €1,000 to €1,250 and an U20 team registration increase from €200 to €250. There will be no increases applied to juvenile team rates. The 2021/22 Player Injury Fund term will run from 1 June 2021 to 31 May 2022. Injury cover will commence once a player is registered on the Foireann system.

Payment of your clubs 2021/22 Player Injury Fund premium will be due by the 20 th August and invitation invoices for team renewals will issue this week. I trust the above is in order and thank all units for their engagement with this matter over the last number of months.
