Weekly Notes 17th of June

County League Division 1 - Round 6

Dr Crokes 0-12 Killarney Legion 0-9

Played in Lewis Road on Sunday 16th of June

Both teams were understrength in this game but nevertheless, a lot of good football was played in this contest. We ran out winners by three points in the end after a very poor first quarter and an outstanding third quarter.

Legion even though facing the breeze in the first half were well on top, especially in the first quarter at this stage they led by four points to nil. We had our first point of the game at the start of the second quarter. We outscored our opponents by four points to three in the second quarter. This left Legion 0-7 to 0-5 ahead at half time.

The game was won by us and lost our opponents in the third quarter. We sent over five points without reply to go into a 0-10 to 0-7 lead. There were many attacks by both sides in the remaining period and a number of goalmouth misses with both sides scoring two points each. This left us winners in the end on a score of 0-12 to 0-9.

Our newcomers did not let the side down once again but three of our seasoned players had vintage displays. Fionn Fitzgerald was outstanding in defence and Kieran O'Leary and Brian Looney excelled, scoring half our scores between them, three points each.

Team and Scorers: Shane Murphy, Brian Fitzgerald, Fionn Fitzgerald, David Naughton, Brian Looney 0-3, Jason Lyne, Lorcán Mc Monagle, Mike Milner, Mark O'Shea, Jack Griffin, Daithi Casey 0-3 (0-2 frees), Michael Potts 0-1, Brendan Falvey, Kieran O'Leary 0-3, Mike Casey 0-2

Subs: Alan O'Sullivan, David O'Leary

Division 5
Kerins O'Rahillys 3-1 Dr Crokes 1-15Played in Connolly Park in Tralee
Despite a goal from Ciaran Brosnan and points from Sean McGann and Mark Hartnett in the first half we were still 6 points down at halftime. Everyone showed a lot more fight and desire in the 2nd half and we dominated the half. Points again from Sean McGann, Jack O'Connor and Eanna Kavanagh launched the comeback in the 2nd half but time ran out. Missed goal chances in both halves cost us in the end.
