Club Notes Week 14 2023   10/04/2023

SFL Div 1 Dr. Crokes 1-17 Spa 1-12. We continued our winning streak in round 3 of the Senior Football League with a 5 point win over neighbours Spa in tough conditions on Saturday last. In a game of two half’s, which was largely dominated by the strong wind, we got off the a great start, playing with the advantage of the wind. Mikey Casey opened the scoring in the first minute of play, before Billy Courtney followed with another, just 1 minute later. We controlled the tempo of the game with Mark O’Shea and David Shaw kicking some fantastic points from play. We led 0-11 to 0-01 after 23 minutes of play. Spa added to their tally in the 25th minute of play, scoring 3 consecutive points, 1 free and 2 from play, before Mikey Casey closed the scoring for the half. Half times score Dr. Crokes 0-12 Spa 0-04. Spa started the second half the stronger, playing with the advantage of the strong blowing wind. After just 3 minutes of play, Spa’s Cian Tobin tapped a high ball passed Bryan O’Shea in the Crokes goals. Spa continued to up the pressure in all areas of the pitch, playing some really physical football. Crokes continued to play patient football, regaining composure and controlling the game from here. Their patience was rewarded in the 29th minute of the second half when young Charlie Keating found the back of the Spa goal, giving us a comfortable 4 point lead with 1 minute of normal time to be played. Michael Potts kicked the last score of the game securing a 5 point win. Next up is Killarney Legion away on April 23rd.
