Club Notes Week 16 2023   24/04/2023

Senior Football League Dr. Crokes 0-14 Legion 1-11. On Sunday last we travelled across the bypass where we faced our local rivals Killarney Legion. This was a highly entertaining local derby game that finished level after 67 minutes of play. Brian Looney opened the game with a fabulous long-range point from play. The first half was largely dominated by Micheal Burns who scored 3 points from play inside the first 13 minutes. With 5 minutes of the first half to be played, we were unlucky not to have added a goal to our tally after a high ball was kicked high into Tom Doyle. This was however cleared away by Brian Kelly in the Legion goals. Half time Dr. Crokes 0-10 Legion 0-06. Legion started the second half the livelier, scoring the first two points of the half, one free and one from play. After just 13 minutes, Legions Ryan O’Grady stuck a rocket of a ball passed Shane Murphy to give them a lead for the first time in the game. They were however reduced to 14 men, one minute later after a back card incident. Our boys took advantage of the numerical advantage, scoring two points from play during this time. It was legions turn to take advantage of a numerical surplues with 10 minutes left to be played when Mark O’Shea was black carded. In a game that could have easily been ours, legion scored two further points in injury time. Next up is Ballymacelligott at home on Sunday.

Senior Hurling League Dr. Crokes 2-17 Causeway 0-21. Our senior hurlers We were away to Causeway in our third league game on last Friday night and came away with a fine win against the current Kerry County Champions. Down three points at half time our team produced a second half of brave and skilful hurling to finish the game on a score line of Dr Crokes 2-17 Causeway 0-21, a two point win. Our goals were scored by David Carroll and Brian O Connor and special mention must go to our youngest players, Nathaniel Doncel, Charlie Keating and the already mentioned Brian O Connor. They were greatly supported by our more experienced players and none of our team took a backward step from start to finish. We have endured many sad days in Causeway over the years but this performance and result eases a lot of pain. The hard gym work over the winter is paying dividends and it's onwards and upwards from here on. Next up is Ballyheigue who we play at Dr Crokes on next Friday night 28th April. Support will be greatly appreciated.

LGFA U14 Our U14 girls had a great win on Sunday afternoon against Finuge/St. Senan’s. Our girls dominated from the start with Sabra Hickey lording it in midfield, ably assisted by Ali Lyne. Mia McMahon, Aoife Kelleher, Miren O’Connor, Keva McCarthy, Isobel Cremin and Bethany Byrne keeping the scoreboard ticking. At the back Jessica McCrohan, Cara Lyne, Katie O’Sullivan, Elizabeth Brosnan, Saoirse O’Donoghue and the outstanding Ciara Mulcahy all kept their opposite numbers firmly in check. Evie Kelly played fantastically in between the posts. Off the bench Faye Mannix at the back and Roisin O’Sullivan, with a great point, added greatly when introduced. The girls would like to congratulate teammate Annie Brosnan on winning the Munster Championship with Kerry on Saturday.
