Club Notes Week 18 2023   08/05/2023

SFL Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 2:17 Austin Stacks 4:06. Our senior team returned to winning ways following a 5 point victory over Austin Stacks last Saturday evening in Connolly Park. Stacks started the better with a goal inside 30 seconds but this young Crokes side responded well and led by 3 points at half time. Strong scoring returns from Mikey Casey, Charlie Keating and Alex Hennigan provided the basis of this victory and bringing 2 Co. League points back to Lewis Road.

SHL Div. 1 Dr. Crokes 0-07 Crotta O’Neills 0-12. On Thursday last we welcomed Crotta O’Neills to Lewis Road. Having reeled off a number of good scores early on, Crotta looked strong, leading 5 points to 1 after the opening quarter. Points from Michael Lenihan and Tom Doyle, along with two long range efforts from the deadfall meant that we cut the gap back down to 2 at the interval, 8 points to 6. As the rain came down in the second half, scores were at a premium for both sides. Crotta made the best of the showers to move points clear after 45 minutes. Just a point from both sides in the closing 15 minutes meant defeat for the home side. We now sit 6th on the table at the halfway mark of the Co. League.

SHL Div. 3 Dr. Crokes B 5:09 Tralee Parnells B 0:15. Our junior hurlers made it two wins from 2 in Div. 3 of the Co. League in Lewis Road on Friday night. We started well with a goal from Aaron Murphy. It was a very open first half with great long range scores taken by Tralee Parnells aided by the wind. We trailed by 4 points at the break, 1:06 to 0:13. The second half belonged to Dr. Crokes. A goal inside the opening minutes of the second half gave us the push on, holding Tralee to just two points in the second half with a tight battling defensive play. Goals in the second half from Aaron Murphy, Kevin Landers and Davie Carroll, who all had fantastic games. It finished 5:09 to 0:15 to have Crokes top of the table and a win over St. Brendans would guarantee top spot.

LGFA U18 Dr. Crokes 5:13 Ballymac 5:07. Our minor girls had their first outing in Div.1 of the Co. League in Ballymac against a strong home side. There were a blitz of goals  in the first half, with our girls trailing 4:08 to 4:02 at half time. We started stronger in the second half, reducing the deficit to 3 points with 10 minutes remaining, but a great save by the Ballymac keeper to prevent the equaliser gave Ballymac the momentum and they finished the stronger.

LGFA U14 Dr. Crokes 1:08 John Mitchells 4:07. Our girls came up against a very strong Tralee side on Friday evening and unfortunately came out on the wrong side. We played against a strong breeze in the 1st half and fell behind early, we improved in the 2nd half but had left ourselves with too much to do. Sabra Hickey was superb in the middle, Saoirse O’Donoghue, Ciara Mulcahy and Faye Mannix were solid in defence. Keva McCarthy, Miren O’Connor and Bethany Byrne, with a nicely taken goal, did well in attack.
